Like most border towns, San Benito was born with the arrival of irrigation and the railroad. Anglo farmers hired locals to clear brushland and build canals, and town founder Sam A. Robertson brought in the San Benito and Rio Grande Valley Railroad. The San Benito History Museum uses historic photos to tell the stories of early settlers.
